The HP LaserJet Enterprise M607, M608 and M609 all use HP 37 black toner. It comes in three versions: 37A (CF237A), 37X (CF237X) and 37Y (CF237Y). Any of the three will fit any of the printers below. The only thing that changes from one to the next is how many pages the cartridge prints before it runs out.

The three HP 37 cartridges
| Cartridge | Part number | Page yield | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP 37A | CF237A | 11,000 pages | $56.89 |
| HP 37X | CF237X | 25,000 pages | $85.25 |
| HP 37Y | CF237Y | 41,000 pages | $149.60 |
Prices as listed on October 11, 2026. Each cartridge ships with its chip installed.
Which one should I buy?
Divide each price by its page yield and the gap is easy to see. The 37A works out to $56.89 ÷ 11,000, or about 0.52 cents a page. The 37X is $85.25 ÷ 25,000, about 0.34 cents a page. The 37Y is $149.60 ÷ 41,000, about 0.36 cents a page.
So the 37X is the cheapest per page of the three. It costs more than the 37A at checkout, but it prints well over twice as many pages, and for most offices that print every day it is the sensible default.
The 37Y costs a little more per page than the 37X, but one cartridge lasts 41,000 pages. If the printer runs high volumes and you would rather open the front door as rarely as possible, it means fewer cartridge changes and fewer spares to keep on hand.
The 37A has the lowest price up front. It suits a printer that doesn't see much use, or a month when you just need the printer running again without spending more right now.
