HP 218A vs 218X: same Color LaserJet toner family for the same printers. The difference is page yield (and cost per page).
218A is the standard-yield set (W2180AโW2183A): black about 1,300 pages; cyan / yellow / magenta about 1,200 each. Buy this when you print lightly, or you only need one color.
218X is the high-yield set (W2180XโW2183X): black about 3,200 pages; colors about 2,500 each. Same fit. Fewer swaps. Better cost per page if the printer runs often.
| Feature | 218A | 218X |
|---|---|---|

| Color yield | ~1,200 each | ~2,500 each |

Not 210A/210X (4201 / 4301) or 206A/206X. Read the label on the cartridge already in the printer.
We sell a compatible 218A 4-pack (W2180A set ยท ~1,300 / 1,200) and a compatible 218X 4-pack (W2180X set ยท ~3,200 / 2,500), chips installed. Singles are on the store if you only need one color.
When to buy which: replace toner more than a couple of times a year โ start with 218X. Occasional color jobs โ 218A is enough. If the label says 218X, stay on X unless you intentionally want fewer pages per cartridge.
FAQ
Are 218A and 218X for the same printers?
Yes. Same 3201 / 3301 family. Only the yield changes.
Will 218 fit a 4201 or 4301?
No. Those take 210A / 210X.
Does compatible toner void the printer warranty?
Using a non-HP cartridge does not by itself void HPโs limited printer warranty. Damage HP attributes to a non-HP cartridge is a different question.
HP+ / Instant Ink?
Those programs do not accept compatible toner. If you are not sure the printer was never enrolled, ask before you order.
Ready to order: compatible HP 218A 4-pack (standard yield) or compatible HP 218X 4-pack (high yield).
