HP 201A vs 201X

Cartra Tech |

hp 201a vs 201x — same HP color toner family for the same printers. The only real difference is page yield (and cost per page).

201A (CF400A set) is the standard-yield color 4-pack — black about 1,500 pages; cyan / magenta / yellow about 1,400 each. Buy this when you print lightly.

201X (CF400X set) is the high-yield color 4-pack — black about 2,800 pages; colors about 2,300 each. Same fit. Fewer swaps. Better cost per page if the printer runs often.

Best for Light / occasional color Regular color office use
Printers Color LaserJet Pro M252dw / M252n; MFP M277c6 / M277dw / M277n

Not 202A / 131A / 410A. Read the label on the cartridge already in the printer. 201A and 201X are different yield lines for the same machines.

We sell a compatible 201A color 4-pack and a compatible 201X color 4-pack, chips installed.

When to buy which: replace toner more than a couple of times a year, or print color often → start with 201X (roughly 2× the pages). Occasional color → 201A is enough. If the label already says 201X / CF400X, stay on high yield unless you intentionally want fewer pages per cartridge.

FAQ

What is hp 201a vs 201x in one sentence?
Same Color LaserJet Pro M252 / MFP M277 printers; 201A is standard yield, 201X is high yield.

Are 201A and 201X for the same printers?
Yes. Same family. Only the yield changes.

Can I mix 201A and 201X in one printer?
Yes on fit — they serve the same machines. Mixing yields just means each slot empties on its own schedule.

Does compatible toner void the printer warranty?
Using a third-party cartridge does not by itself void HP’s limited printer warranty. Damage HP attributes to a non-HP cartridge is a different question.
